My name is Nuwan Waas, and I'm the founder and lead developer for Creationspark.com. My web development and programming skills runs way back, when there was no Yahoo or Google. Early days of web development didn't had any fancy code generators like Dreamweaver, and GIF animation was the state of the art before Flash. All HTML was hand coded. Instead of CSS, table and frames were used back then for page formatting and positioning. Netscape navigator was yesterdays Firefox. When it comes to programming there was only monochrome monitors with 386/486 chip set and DOS prompt. Lotus123 was the Excel spreadsheets and WordStar was used because there was no Microsoft Office products at that time. My first programming language was GWBASIC.. Some of you might have heard about it and I have created lot of simple DOS games with huge lines of code and getting the PC speaker to play a tune back then was huge. I took my first C (ANSI C) programming course on XENIX Operating System and it was about that time I heard the birth of Turbo C.
I first got my hands on Microsoft IDE when it came out with Visual Basic 5 on my windows 95 486 machine. And since then I’ve been keeping myself updating with new development tools that you see today. Today we all do our development and design in a very higher level. Simply put, we work on top of the programs developed by experienced developers. It’s the age of drag and drop. You will not need to write huge amounts of code today to get a very good looking and functioning applications. Only thing you need to know is drag, drop and customize… right? Almost everyone started web development and programming with the minimum knowledge of programming. If you are looking for just a name tag that says “IT solutions developer” or “IT-specialist” or any other fancy name, then getting a good exposure to programming concepts is in no use. But if you want to be that hardcore programmer and applications developer for the love of it, then it is required that you learn these concepts. It will give you the ability to troubleshoot and to build better application that are robust with scalability and mobility |
